The Chamber has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability with the planting of 1,000 trees across one hectare of land as part of its annual tree-planting initiative at the Chipa Forest Reserve.
This year’s exercise involved the planting of Cassia and Acacia trees, continuing the Chamber’s contribution towards improving forest cover and supporting environmental restoration. In previous years, CBOD has planted more than 2,000 trees of the same species, bringing the Chamber’s cumulative tree-planting efforts to over 3,000 trees.
Speaking during the exercise, the CEO, Dr. Patrick Ofori, emphasised the Chamber’s commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to mitigating carbon emissions associated with activities within the downstream petroleum sector.

He noted that as the energy industry continues to contribute significantly to economic development, industry players must equally recognise their responsibility to support practical environmental sustainability initiatives.
Dr. Ofori therefore encouraged other players within the energy sector to participate in tree planting and other environmental interventions that contribute to climate action and the protection of Ghana’s natural environment.
He also expressed appreciation to CBOD member companies for their active participation and continued support for the initiative, noting that collective industry action is essential to achieving meaningful and lasting environmental impact.
Trees play an important role in climate mitigation by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow and storing carbon in their biomass. Beyond carbon sequestration, tree planting can contribute to restoring degraded landscapes, improving forest cover, protecting soils and supporting biodiversity.

The planting of Cassia and Acacia therefore represents more than a one-day activity. The long-term value of the initiative lies in ensuring that the trees survive, mature and continue delivering environmental benefits over their lifespan.
As conversations around sustainability and energy transformation continue to shape the future of the energy industry, CBOD believes that environmental responsibility must be accompanied by practical action.
Through this tree-planting initiative, the Chamber continues to demonstrate its commitment to contributing to a greener and more sustainable future while encouraging broader participation across the energy sector.
With over 3,000 trees planted to date, CBOD remains committed to building on this progress and supporting initiatives that contribute to Ghana’s environmental and climate objectives.
