The 7th Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GhIPCon 2026) brought together over 600 industry leaders, policymakers, regulators, investors, and other stakeholders for two days of dialogue on the future of Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
Held on 16th–17th July 2026 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, the conference was organised by the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
Under the theme, “Building a Resilient Downstream: Policy, Innovation, and Investment for Growth,” GhIPCon 2026 provided a platform for stakeholders to examine critical issues shaping the industry, including fuel supply security, investment, local refining, regulatory advancement, natural gas integration, local content, digital transformation, sustainability, cross-border fuel trade and consumer protection.
Our CEO, Dr. Patrick Ofori, contributed to discussions on strengthening Ghana’s fuel supply security and building greater resilience across the downstream value chain. He emphasised the need for a balanced approach combining commercially viable domestic refining, diversified crude and petroleum product supply sources, strategic reserves, efficient logistics and storage infrastructure, regional cooperation, and strong private-sector participation.
He further highlighted the importance of balancing consumer protection and market stability, stressing the need for transparent, technology-enabled regulation, effective compliance systems, and fair competition to create an environment that supports sustainable investment.
Beyond the panel discussions, GhIPCon 2026 facilitated networking, exhibitions and engagements among stakeholders from across the petroleum value chain, creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
For CBOD, the conversations at GhIPCon must extend beyond the conference room. The Chamber remains committed to advancing key policy discussions emerging from the conference through research, industry articles, stakeholder engagements and seminars, helping to translate dialogue into practical outcomes for the downstream petroleum industry.
This year’s conference reinforced the importance of collaboration among government, regulators and industry in building a competitive, resilient and sustainable downstream petroleum sector capable of supporting Ghana’s long-term economic and energy security objectives.
